Summary/Abstract: This paper describes the scholar population that attended Royal High School in Cluj (Regius Gymnasium Maioris) between 1840–1841. There were then five classes, as in any higher gymnasium in Transylvania and the Habsburg Empire, with the language of instruction, Latin: Infimae Grammaticae (IM), Mediae Grammaticae (MG), Supremae Grammaticae (SM), Prima Humanitatis (PH) şi Secunda Humanitatis (SH), three classes of Grammer School and two classses for Language Arts. The students were Romanian coming from families with different social status, of different religions: Greek‑Catholics, Orthodox, Roman Catholics.
