Summary/Abstract: The police is an organization that plays a crucial role in domestic violence related cases. In Romania, like in many other states, the police ensure public order, protecting the citizens, preventing and fighting crime. The response of the police, a powerful and highly visible organization, in case of domestic violence, carries a very important message. The way the police react gives confidence to the victim and assures her that her complaint is a legitimate one and shall be responded to with professionalism, but at the same time gives a very powerful message to the perpetrator regarding the non-acceptability of his behavior. Police training in this field is very important and challenging and requires ongoing efforts.
