Summary/Abstract: Political life in Poland in recent years has been both fascinating and disturbing. Poland is a country that can be proud of its numerous successes, a country that has gone through a particularly troubled transition period, in which democracy and a market economy have been successfully introduced, a country that has found a more than respectable place in the international community . But also a state that seems to be jeopardizing all of these achievements today by plunging into a dangerous political adventure. The right-wing forces that came to power in the parliamentary and presidential elections in autumn 2005 arose directly from the democratic opposition currents, which sharply criticized the Polish transformation model developed after the victory over the communist regime. Her identity was formed from a political as well as an economic and social point of view when this model was rejected. In order to understand the current political situation in Poland, it is therefore important to examine the decisive era of transformation in more detail.
