From Statistics to Library Evaluation

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history of selected methods of academic libraries evaluation, from the first part of the 18th century until 2008. The author refers to publications being often cited in specialized bibliographies, as essential for this topic. A literature analysis was done to select the most important research topics in a historical aspect. The development of quantitative surveys in the United States and their influence on the European countries was discussed.
