Short humorous prose («pictures of merchants’ life») as a new source of the Russian merchant class women’s history of the late XIX — the early ХХ c.

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the detection and substantiation of the source potential of the literary works of the late XIX — the early ХХ centuries collected in the so-called «pictures of merchant life», for the research of the Russian merchant class women’s history. The limits of the usage of literature as a historical source are outlined; the archaeographical characteristic of the short humorous prose works is given. The author reveals the directions of the Russian merchant class women’s history, which can be studied on the base of the mentioned literary works.
