Summary/Abstract: The Polish and Portuguese languages use different means of representing the category of aspect. Verbal periphrases are some of the most representative exponents of aspect semantics in Portuguese. In the absence of the estar+a+infinitivo periphrasis in the Polish language, the aim of the study was to find means of expressing the values represented by the above mentioned periphrastic structure available in the Polish language. The authorsbelieve that the objective can be successfully accomplished by analysing translations into Polish of authentic Portuguese statements containing the verbal periphrasis estar+a+infinitivo. The analysis shows that the presented verbal periphrasis has its Polish equivalents mainly in imperfective verb forms. Moreover, the use of imperfective verb forms and adverbial constructs which do not contribute new aspectual values to the overall value of the statement but merely specify what is contained in the verbal form can be observed in the analysed examples.
