Summary/Abstract: The activity of the library in Ostrów Lubelski is not only the collecting and storage of the books, but also cultural activities for the benefit of the local community. It is trying to keep up with the needs of residents, which forces it to develop modern digital technologies, and thus changes its character. The library has to depart from routine and repetitive behaviours and activities, look for new solutions. The main aim for the local librarian is to interest the local community about the world that surrounds her in the first and foremost cultural aspect. An example of such activities is the popularizing activity of the librarian who publishes articles in the field of history and regional culture in the local journal „Głos Ostrowa”.
