Summary/Abstract: Technocratic government has often been mentioned in Hungarian politics since the regime change, although none of the cabinets can clearly be characterized as technocratic. The closest approximation was the government formed by Gordon Bajnai in 2009. Political science literature often characterizes his socalled “government of crisis management” as a full technocratic government, but analysis of the composition and activity of this government indicates that the label is incorrect. The prime minister and his ministers had clear political or partisan linkages, and although the cabinet declared a politically neutral agenda in its crisis management programme, analysis of its legislative activity shows it did not only deal with crisis management.
