Summary/Abstract: Amendment XIV to the Constitution of the United States prohibits state governments from "denying any person subject to their jurisdiction the same protection of law". The wording of this appendix does not specifically exclude women from this protection and certainly applies explicitly to all persons under the jurisdiction of any Member State of the Union. However, history shows that XIV. the amendment was intended in the first place in favor of freed slaves.
