Summary/Abstract: This article examines the problem with the taxonomy of digital games and explores the current limitations and affordances of digital game genre. Games are viewed as media, and market-based genre categories ignore fundamental parts of gaming – interaction. In the article we focus on how genre theory is shaped by traditional media, discuss our view on debate and try-outs to solve problematic taxonomy, criticize the main concept, which is very vague to such complex topic as digital games as we try to look for new solutions and ways how to redefine the taxonomical framework of digital games.
