Summary/Abstract: The article presents theoretical premises and empirical verification of the concept „attitude towards work”. A new diagnostic method of attitude towards work was presented, understood as “work in general”, and not current work of the participant. The construction has been carried out on a group of 633 workers (18-55), differentiated with respect to level of education and occupation. Factor analysis revealed two dimensions of attitudes to work: hedonic-autotelic and normative. Further analyses revealed that attitudes to work were related to such demographic variables as gender (higher scores of women on both scales), age (negative relationship with the first factor) and education (the lowest scores on both scales received by people with lower educational level). Validity of the method was examined through its relationship with the Values and Motives at Work Questionnaire (Bajcar, Borkowska, Czerw and Gąsiorowska, 2011), declaration about taking/keeping work even in the absence of economic necessity, and by additional studies conducted on a group of unemployed women.
