Summary/Abstract: The ability of older people to live healthy, independent, and self-reliant lives is influenced by the quality of their environment. Eight main environmental dimensions decide about the quality of life of elderly people: transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information, community support and health services, and outdoor spaces and buildings. The purpose of the paper is to assess the progress of activities undertaken in the region of Łódź to provide an ageing-friendly environment, using the eight dimensions listed above. The assessment is based on the results of a representative survey conducted at the end of 2017 with rural and urban respondents aged 60 and older, who were asked about their living conditions, problems, social participation, and ways of coping with difficult situations.
