Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the effects of the process of deindustrialization immediately expressed in processes of urban shrinkage in border mountainous municipalities of the Rhodopes and Strandzha-Sakar in South Bulgaria. These are areas defined as regions for targeted impact on a variety of geographical, social, industrial and economic indicators. Included is the assessment of urban shrinkage and identification of the trends in the development of the southern border mountainous municipalities caused by the deindustrialization.
