Summary/Abstract: The article proposes etymological explanations for some Bulgarian words, either alternative or supplementary to the explanations found in the Etymological dictionary of the Bulgarian language: Bulg. dial. пълшка ‘first or last snow’ is hypothesized to be a derivative of PrSlav. *pylь; dial. сга, сгъ ‘thin layer of mold on wine or on pickled products’ are explained as a continuation of PrSlav. *sǫga, a derivative of *sęgti ; dial. снỳвам ‘cover’ is tentatively explained as a version of Bulg. сновà (PrSlav. *snuti, *snovǫ /*snujǫ); тỳмкам ‘knock’ and тỳмне ми ‘figure (out)’ are regarded as genetically identical with Rus. тýмкать ‘utter some sound’ and ‘figure (out)’ and Belarus. тýмкаць ‘figure (out)’ (all of those being based on onomatopoeia).
