Summary/Abstract: With the end of World War I, Poles and Germans began a new phase of communication. The figures of two generals and ideologues of their countries stood out: Hans von Seeckt and Józef Piłsudski. As a key figure in the German power structure in the first post-war years, General von Seeckt played an important role in the development of German-Polish antagonism. Piłsudski, on his part, probably underestimated the German proposal for rapprochement at the end of 1918, or the real situation then would not allow him to develop it. Under his leadership, the young Polish state came in heavy confrontation with its Western neighbour. The article attempts to show how these two prominent figures put the new German-Polish relations on a poor footing, further fatal in the years to come.
