Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses about traditional food of Croats in the past. Food is what invigorates and alives man. It is therefore understandable that the Herzegovinian man constantly struggling with food supply himself and his family and the most of the day he consisted of getting around this. His basic food was what he was produced himself: corn, vegetables, milk products and very rarely meat, only in exceptional occasions. As far as poverty made Herzegovina menu simple, people were tried to enrich their food in special occasions, celebrations, weddings and make it a worthy occasion. The wars, the hunger years are often led people to bare survival, but even then Herzegovinian man did not give up a hard life. He managed to feed himself and his family in all possible ways. Poverty is not made miser or blasphemers from him. On the contrary, he was grateful to God for life and for every day that passes and that will come.
