Summary/Abstract: The Belt and Road Initiative is giant soft power strategy with the potential to change global economic and geopolitical balance. However, the land-based component of the project which also focuses on Central Asia was developed as a solution to China’s domestic economic and security problems. The project can also be evaluated as an answer to the Eurasian Economic Union led by Russia and the US proposed New Silk Road. Political and economic relations of China and Central Asia within the scope of the Initiative will be analyzed in this article. The approach of Central Asian countries to China’s Initiative, benefits, advantages and possible negative effects of the project to the region are assessed.
