Summary/Abstract: The first civil governor of Sofia Pyotr Vladimirovich Alabin (1824–1896) and vice-governor Marin Drinov (1838–1906) made an invaluable contribution to the founding of the Bulgarian National Library 140 years ago.The author, also, points out the contribution of the Library's first director – Georgy Yakovlev Kirkov.
