Summary/Abstract: Christian Rakovsky was a prominent socialist activist, who undertook ample actions in order to undermine the stability and the territorial integrity the Romanian state. Being accused of serving German interests, he was arrested in 1916. Later on, he was taken to Iași and freed by the Russian Army on May 1st (April 18th) 1917. Rakovsky moved to Odessa, recognized the Bolshevik government and started to collaborate with it, hoping that the new Russian authorities will interfere in Romania’s affairs. As chairman of the revolutionary government of the Soviet Ukraine, Rakovsky held an intense activity concerning maintaining USSR’s opposition towards recognizing Romania’s sovereignty over Bessarabia.
