Summary/Abstract: Through a study of liturgical sources, this paper investigates the origins of medieval chanting practices on Slavic soil according to their function in the divine services. In a bid to glimpse the medieval musical dynamic, it examines the hymnography, specifically three core antiphons of cathedral provenance, and their application and performance for the Feasts of the Holy Cross: September 14, the Third Week of Lent, and Good Friday.
