"Family" and "genus" in the archaic era of Ancient Greece: Solon's reforms in the field of family and marriage

Summary/Abstract: Present day classical studies witness some sort of renaissance in the study of reformist activities and the personality of the Athenian politician Solon. Solon's laws on family and marriage are less studied, as are the ideas of the Athenian reformer about these social institutions. This is due to the lack of evidence on this issue and the complexity of the interpretation of these legal provisions, which was noted by the ancient authors themselves. The aim of this work is to review and analyze ancient evidence of the reforms of Solon, which affected property issues in the field of family and marriage.
