Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has upset the world and accelerated the process of society's migration to the virtual environment, which is also reflected in the growing interest of intelligence services to develop collection capabilities specific to this field. In the surface web, the population, as reflected by the number of users, mostly migrated towards forums, social media, online games and online dating sites, but a vast amount of the information and people of interest can be found in the deep and dark web. Consequently, gathering information from human sources in the virtual space requires a holistic approach, integrating traditional HUMINT expertise and gathering capabilities with technical know-how. In the following article we aim to emphasize that the measures implemented to combat the pandemic will accelerate the process of developing HUMINT online collection capabilities, but should not replace intelligence collection from human sources through traditional espionage operations.
