Summary/Abstract: The study conducted within this paper is focused on a dominant aspect of the national and international economic literature, respectively the impact of insurance sector in economic growth, subject which has been analysed in a high number of studies in the last decade, each of them with different result. As a general trend, it has been obtained either a positive or negative influence or the total absance of any impact on the rhythm of economic growth. The study’s main objective is to identify, analyze and evaluate the effects of insurance sector on economic growth for 6 selected states: France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Spain and Italy, by using a set of annual data from 1984 to 2016 and a quraterly set of data in case of Romania for 2008 to 2017. Research is orientated especially towards identificating the contribution of insurance sector in macroeconomic developoment and the results of the study have proved that the effects of this sector’s activity on the entire economy vary, depending on the national specificity, as well as on the type of insurance that predominates in the respective economy.
