Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses on the linguistic intergroup bias (LIB), seen as a subtle way of maintaining and transmitting stereotypes. Using as an instrument the Linguistic Categories Model, our research has both a theoretic and a methodological objective. First, we tried to give at least a partial answer to the problem regarding the explanation of LIB through either the social identity theory or the expectancies theory. Thus we used the gender stereotypes, our subjects’ task consisting of describing some every day situations where a man/woman displayed a stereotypic, a counter-stereotypic or a neutral behavior, positive or negative. The second objective was to study the LIB by using the Linguistic Categories Model in the free answer condition, where the subjects are not limited by pre-established answering variants.
