Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role of hermeneiai and other sources in the working practice of Zahari Zograph from Samokov. It presents documentary evidence of Zahari’s regard for hermeneiai and also of his selection of alternative sources when commissioned for specific icons. It comments on the album (НАИМ 11) associated as a hermeneia with Zahari before analysing this painter’s interpretation of selected sources in his treatment of imagery in the two commissioned icons..
