Summary/Abstract: The relevance of culture and philosophy in the thought and work of Blessed Augustine is one of the major themes of modern historical research on the theology of the Bishop of Hippo. Blessed Augustine stated that Christianity was a greater philosophy because it provided essential knowledge. Christian theology gives us the chance to choose between philosophical issues. Moreover, if Augustine placed Greek thought, reflection, and culture in the service of the Church, theology, and Christianity, he did so because he believed that reason was the same for everyone. The Christian faith reveals only those things which reason could not discover or prove on its own.
