Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to examine how the positive spillovers stemming from industrial grouping at urban level lead to the emergence of spread effects at regional level through discussing the case of Karaman in the early 2000s. In Turkey, one of the numerous cases on this issue is Karaman that is an important industrial and commercial centre of South Central Anatolia at both provincial and urban level. Karaman became an important sub-regional growth centre made prominent by new commercial and industrial activities in the last 20 years. A 2004 survey of production and marketing linkages of the firms in the food industry of Karaman emphasises the role of production networks and producer services in cumulative regional development at various scales. The efficiency of these firms in regional and national markets both increases the industrial and commercial weight of the Konya-Karaman sub-region and leads to a multiplier effect in producer services at the intra-regional level.
