Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses one of the issues taken up by Hannah Arendt in her reflections concerning civil disobedience. In her essay entitled Civil Disobedience, she opposes recognizing Socrates’ conduct as a model for civil disobedience. The main objections as to such faulty qualification refer to Socrates’ attitude to laws and his motives with respect to his voluntary submission to a penalty. Both issues are analyzed on the basis of a well-known dialogue between Socrates and Crito.
