Summary/Abstract: This paper is focused on examining the position, function and structure of contemporary theatre, in circumstances of domination of mass media. The basis of my research is postdramatic theatre aesthetics, the work of authors such as Wooster Group, Forced Entertainment, La Gaia Scienza, Falso Movimento, Laurie Anderson, John Jesurun etc. They believe that the contemporary theatre, if it wants to be relevant, must question its traditional function, as well as the structure. It must adjust itself to new social relations, new in the sense of huge media influence. I tend to examine theoretical aspects of the position of technology and new media in contemporary society and culture, as well as performance theories regarding media influence. I endeavour to find explanation for the collapse of the traditional, Aristotelian theatre expression in the work of postdramatic authors. Their work is based on the awareness of the huge media influence on life and art, and it is the starting point of their search for the new theatre language and structure.
