On the Nature of Internal Life at Kazan Theological Seminary at the Turn of the 20th Century

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of the relationships between the students and administration of Kazan Theological Seminary. The general tendencies and patterns in the development of these relationships, and a circle of contradictions between the said parties are defined. The nature of the students’ protest and its forms and genesis are considered. The contribution of internal and external factors to the aggravation of the situation at the seminary is specified. The response of the spiritual hierarchy and the Holy Synod is demonstrated, and the role and position of the state authorities in this process is reported. The research is based on previously unpublished archival documents.
