Summary/Abstract: The article presents an comparative analysis of three fragments of Polish films: Popiół i diament (Ashes and Diamonds) by Andrzej Wajda (1958) – the scene when Maciek Chełmicki is dying in rubbish, Zezowate szczęście (Bad Luck) by Andrzej Munk (1960) – the scene of Jan Piszczyk’s walk along the cabbage field, and Wszyscy jesteśmy Chrystusami (We’re All Christs) by Marek Koterski (2006) – the scene at the rubbish dump at the beginning of the film and the scene at the same place towards the end. What matters here is the setting and its role in the composition as well as the manner in which they come into intertextual relations.
