The essence of the Church and of collegiality

Summary/Abstract: The main topic of this paper is a collegiality in the Church in a Catholic perspective. The main purpose is to describe the essence of collegiality in the Church. The first part of this paper is dedicated to the Church of Christ as a ground of collegiality and drives at describing the essence of the Church. On such basis the second part of this paper discusses the essence of collegiality, both: collegiality of the whole Church and collegiality of the Collegium of the Twelve and its successor – the Collegium of the Bishops. In conclusion the author says that collegiality in the Church is strictly connected to the Church’s main attributes: unity, holiness, universality, apostolicity and definitivety. Collegiality in the Church, as all her attributes, is for the Church in the same time a gift and a task, a challenge.
