Summary/Abstract: The present study is dedicated to the work and personality of Dumitru D. Roşca – an outstanding Romanian philosopher, one of the author’s professors during his academic years spent at the University of Cluj. An extended analysis inside the study holds D. D. Roşca’s doctoral paper, originally published in French and treating about the influence of Hegel on Taine. Afterwards, the ideas contained in that original thesis of doctorate are connected together with those of D. D. Roşca has supported in his academic lectures and radio speeches during the World War II, thus being emphasized his considerations about the primacy of spiritual values, the discipline required by research and study as well as the appeal to morality as an exceptional must of intellectuals.
