Summary/Abstract: Some of the basic characteristics of contemporary theological education in which knowledge of the foreign languages plays a significant role are primarily discussed in this paper. Further on, we are particularly pointing to the significance and particularity of the language for specific purposes (LSP) for theologians and the two most frequent mistakes which appear: on one hand, opposing the LSP to the general language, and, on the other hand, neglecting the particularities of LSP and the need that it must be studied at the faculties which are not the philological ones. Using analytical and descriptive methods, in this paper we analyze syllabi and their basic aims of the subject Foreign Language at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade. The first aim is to train students to use their professional reference either in one or more foreign languages, to be acquainted with the culture of the language area and particularly its spirituality, and these influences should extend the general culture of students and their circuital consciousness and professional knowledge. The other aim is developing those language and professional competencies which enable students to communicate in a foreign language, to master their verbal abilities and make them competent at the language in the productive aspects in the forms of written and spoken skills in the professional areas of communication. In the end, we are analyze the significance of existence of the course book for foreign languages for the students of theology and multilingualism in the field of theology, what is particularly stressed, as well as in other scientific-professional spheres.
