This paper focuses on academic vocabulary used in Lithuanian research papers. The following objectives have been raised to achieve the aim: 1. to build a corpus of research papers published in the Lithuanian language over the past decade; 2. to identify the most frequent words and expressions (collocations) in Lithuanian academic writing applying statistical methods; 3. to explore the distribution, discourse functions, variability, semantic and pragmatic values of academic words. This paper first gives a brief overview of the key terms and theoretical background, then presents the research results and ends with the summary of the main findings.
