Summary/Abstract: The article presents the drama by Karol Hubert Rostworowski entitled Judasz z Kariothu. The analysis has been expected to answer the question what picture of Judas Iscariot in Rostworowski’s drama was like; what emotions the author put in the character; what language means he used; why there is still space for individual scenic interpretation in spite of very detailed – as it is believed – stage directions included in the text of the drama; and why there are differences in reception of the drama and in the appraisal of the behaviour of the main character. In order to answer those questions the stage directions have been analysed, which are elements typical of dramas as a literary genre, and which by definition fulfil the function of a script and complement the main text. According to the analysis Rostworowski includes information about psychic states and emotions of the main character in the added text. Mostly they are negative and very intensive emotions. In some places the author reveals his emotional attitude to the main character (which is ambivalent). The uniqueness of the vocabulary concerning that fragment of the world (referring to emotions or indicating their symptoms) enables the author of the drama to clearly define the situation of speaking (to suggest the way of how the actors act), and – on the other hand – makes it possible to interpret the drama in a free and individualised way.
