Summary/Abstract: There are few phenomena and concepts in social sciences that seemingly so suddenly found themselves in the center of interest, as has been the case in the past years with the notion of populism. We live in the time of the ever-present action of the populist forces, which in response to the existing challenges offer unrealistic solutions based on myths, not facts. Member States of the European Union share values in a society governed by inclusiveness, tolerance, justice, solidarity and non-discrimination. Changes in the world carry with them risks that penetrate public awareness and change views of Europe and its values. The European values to which the EU is constantly called, are threatened within the Union itself, therefore the EU will have to constantly prove the meaning of its existence. An inevitable question arises, where is the European Union today in relation to its fundamental values?
