Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I will discuss different interconnected aspects of postcolonialism in the novel Surfacing, by Margaret Atwood: tradition, cultural and individual identity, center/margin opposition and body. Particular focus will be placed upon dialectics between body of language and the female body of the main character, whose journey represents a symbolical attempt of transcending cultural oppositions and borders and identity crisis.
