Summary/Abstract: The article is a discussion of a hitherto unknown manuscript of a film novella, which was the first – significantly different from the next – version of the script for the film made in 1955 as" Career". The manuscript, despite being ahead of the chronological framework of socialist realism in Poland (1949-1955), contains many elements that allow it to be considered very related to the works of the era. Using means similar to those of future socialist realist texts, it shows both employees of the Office of Security (positive heroes) and enemies of communism, similarly grasps the topic of work, as well as creates an optimistic vision of Poland. It also has composition elements similar to socialist realist texts. It is one of the examples confirming the indications of cultural historians of this period that the symptoms of a shift to socialist realism are visible before the official, state inauguration of the trend in Poland. The film novella in question therefore belongs to a group of works whose existence questions the idea of socialist realism as a trend exclusively imposed on artists administratively.
