Summary/Abstract: The article gives conjectures concerning the role of Rome in the acceptance (866-917) in Bulgaria and Dalmatia of the Christian tradition through the work of the Bulgarian diplomats and men of letters kavkhan Petar (Chernorizets) and boil loan (Chernorizets Khrabr, John Exarch) and through the work of the Seven Saints. A part of their holy relics has been preserved in the city of Velegrad (Bela, Velitza) in Provincia Bulgaria Occidentale. Velegrad was also the episcopal see of Clement of Velitza, where services, frescoes and icons of them are also kept. The result is the acceptance by the Bishop of Rome of Abecedarium Bulgaricum and the translations of the Christian books into the language of the European Moesians (i. e. Bulgarians). The translators of these books have used a number of old Christian texts in Hebrew, Greek and Latin from Rome and from Italic and other West European centres and this explains the "Western" stratum in Old Bulgarian literature and culture.
