Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to describe the phenomenon ofteenage depression in the context of the impact of depressionon the functioning of the family system. The first partof the paper shows the understanding of the concept ofthe family on the basis of the system theory, paying specialattention to the family life cycle and the function of symptomsin the family system. The second part of the articlepresents the etiology, symptoms and specificity of teenagedepression. The developmental tasks characteristic for theage of adolescence were also reconstructed. The last partof the article is devoted to the ways in which depressioncan be understood from a systemic and family therapy perspectiveThe possible ways and directions of working witha teenager and his parents are also indicated.
