Summary/Abstract: The paper contains a phenomenological and theoreticalanalysis of responsibility treated as the capacity of personalcausation (taking the role of the cause of one’s actions)based upon conscious awareness and self-detachment fromthe immediate stream of one’s living. The manifestations ofthe lack of responsibility are the failure to manage one’s actionsin the face of multiple forces majeures, incontinence ofimmediate wishes and impulses, or rigid hypercontrol overthese impulses. Special sections are devoted to interrelationsbetween responsibility and freedom, especially in the developmentalaspect, and responsibility for another person.
