Summary/Abstract: Following 1989, no government in Poland has devoted sufficient attention to the issue of education. In Polish schools, problems have continued to pile up and teachers have grown frustrated with increasingly more ill-considered reforms. The last straw was the fact that teachers’ wages had been significantly below the average earnings in the country. The result was the biggest teachers’ strike to date which sought not only to obtain decent wages but also improve the quality of education. Teachers organized massive social consultations within Citizens’ Sessions on Education. Meanwhile, they began to form associations and organizations. And although in April, they felt that they lost the strike, education is still publicly debated today while its issues and challenges are being discussed by the representatives across the party spectrum.
