Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on an interpretation of the meaning of education culture and school culture in the context of contemporary challenges. Two paradigms of thought are analyzed: the first one embraces cultural diversity, the multidimensionality of the social world and individual narratives, hence, a personalized attitude towards growth and education. The other seeks to reduce this complexity, limit its range and make it conform to measurable standards and objectives. The latter approach is particularly visible in Polish education and erects a hierarchical structure dependent on expert authority. Is there any other perspective in between these two extreme positions? This article attempts to answer that question.
