Summary/Abstract: Catalin Zamfir, in his article, presents a theoretical approach of the „over-used” concepts of ethnicity and modernization and invites us to a more profound reflection on those political programs based on these two concepts. Though their objective is a nobble one: social development and social change, we should not neglect their ideological substrate. Analyzing ethnicity and modernization with regards to the Rroma people can become a very interesting and provocative sociological approach of this issue.
