Digital library of Gazi Husrev-bey’s library: project of digitization of old periodicals

Summary/Abstract: The staff of the Gazi Husrev-bey’s Library, on the occasion of the 480th anniversary of the existence of this institution, worked on digitizing old periodicals. The library own several special collections of priceless materials of cultural, historical and artistic value, and these valuable funds also have a collection of serial publications which is about 1834 titles. Particularly valuable are the old periodical publications that were published in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1866 and 1945, and because of that they were in the first phase of this project. Collection of periodicals from the Gazi Husrev-bey library is composed of the oldest newspapers and those printed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, some Sarajevo daily newspapers and almost all of the Muslim newspapers and journals that were published in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The significance of this fund is really huge, especially since many copies of old periodicals from other libraries have been, unfortunately, destroyed or damaged during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995.
