Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the way high school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina use and express the speech act of apology in both, Bosnian and the English language. The data is collected through Discourse Completion Tests (DCTs) from 80 high school students (43 Male and 37 Female). Gender, formal/ informal setting, and status variables were examined. The findings show that each variable to a certain extent affects the process of communication and that there are not strictly set rules which govern the communication process. The traditional role of gender is challenged and there is a need for further investigation in the field.
