Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the relation between mental rotation and right-left discrimination abilities in their developmental course. 194 children within the age range 6 to 10 years were administered the Benton Right-Left Orientation Test, a task for right/left hand discrimination, and a mental rotation test The results confirm that the investigated abilities are closely related. The most important finding of the present study concerns the demonstrated differences in this interrelation for different age groups. Obtained data are viewed in light of current knowledge that components of functionally integrated units attain maturity at different rates and at different times, and the complexity of the discrimination task.
