Summary/Abstract: The universe in Slavici's works is the universe of the Romanian village of his time. This atmosphere of the village is portrayed realistically .A world closed in itself, guided by strict customs living in a natural harmony with Nature. Everything is settled from the very beginning, people perform as a ritual the same simple gestures in well-known occupations, inherited from father to son. The heroes and heroines of Slavici's novels and short stories naturally descend from this world even when they oppose the ethic of the village.
