Summary/Abstract: In order to efficiently manage and optimize the capital structure, as a function of achieving the goal performance of the company, it is necessary to know its determinants. There are general and determinants specific to the nature of each company. This paper explores the determinants of capital structure in trading companies in Serbia. In that context internal determinants of the capital structure in trade of Serbia for the period 2008-2013 are specially researched. Their positive and negative effects are important for optimizing the capital structure, as significant determinant, in order to achieve the targeted total performance of the trade in Serbia in the future.
